David Nice Builders – A Brief Timeline History

1975

DNB incorporated along with the foundation vision established by David A Nice

1976

Deborah Lawhon Nice joins the company full-time shortly after she and David were married on May 1st, 1976.

1975-1989

High-end residential homes and remodels were the focus – won multiple awards for home building. Self-performing many components of the project with our own team.

1987

New headquarter office constructed on property to support the growth of the company .

1990

First retail client – J. Crew – Williamsburg VA. The second location for J. Crew was Martinsburg, West Va. Grew from there into many others like Jones New York, Nautica, and more.

1997

Nicewood Enterprises (sister corporation) established to help support and provide retail fixture packages for our clients, truly providing a turn-key solution.

Early 2000s

4 major divisions in full swing and growing– millwork, retail, civil, commercial

2004

Nicewood acquires new location in Stonehouse industrial park with 40,000 square feet.

2008

DNB lands its first large PPEA Design/Build project with James City County Police Station.

2008

Nicewood expands another 40,000 square foot to existing space.

2020

DNB completes high-end residential development projects in satellite location — Bozeman, Montana.

2021

Successful Succession to second generation – Brandon Nice and Chris Nice assumes role as President and VP of retail

2023

Nicewood expands their location again with another 10,000 square feet, bringing the total shop size to 90,000 square feet!

2025

DNB purchases new property for planned expansion plans and community development that will serve as its new home for the next 50 years while maintaining the strength of its strong foundation and roots that brought us to today.
